Psalm 134 A Song of Ascents.

 1Behold, bless the Lord,

All you servants of the Lord,

Who by night stand in the house of the Lord!

2Lift up your hands in the sanctuary,

And bless the Lord.

3The Lord who made heaven and earth

Bless you from Zion!

Commentary

This Psalm is a Psalm that commends every servant of the Lord to bless Him. Whether we are “little” or great in the service of the Lord, our lips must bless and praise His Holy Person and Name. As for the context it was the priests and Levites who were charged with the Lord’s service, and though each had their own specific duties, each one was to faithfully worship Him. Even the night watchmen in the house of the Lord were to keep the Lords’ house reverent and full of praise (2 Chr. 31:2). And as for the expression of this, the lifting of one’s hands towards heaven was the gesture of this reverence and praise that they employed. Now when the people returned to the house of the Lord, the priests who had been serving and blessing the Lord in the night watches would now pronounce His blessing upon them. What a wonderful privilege to be blessed in the Name of the Lord. For it is the Lord who made heaven and earth, who is the Sovereign One who rules out of Zion, who commands His blessing upon us all His people, amen.
