Acts 12:25

“And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their ministry, and they also took with them John whose surname was Mark.”

Commentary

With Herod dead, and the violence against the church orchestrated by him now quelled, the apostles Barnabas and Saul having fulfilled their mission of mercy in bringing relief to the apostles and elders there, now depart from Jerusalem and return to Antioch, bringing with them John whose surname was Mark. This was the man whose mother was hosting the church in Jerusalem, which the apostle Peter visited on the night the angel of the Lord freed him from prison (Acts 12:12). And so, they too must have also visited and had fellowship with the brethren there, before their returning to Antioch.
