1The Lord reigns,
He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord is clothed,
He has girded Himself with
strength.
Surely the world is established,
so that it cannot be moved.
2Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.
3The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
The floods have lifted up
their voice;
The floods lift up their
waves.
4The Lord on high is
mightier
Than the noise of many waters,
Than the mighty waves of the
sea.
5Your testimonies are very sure;
Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord,
forever.
Commentary
Vs. 1 1The Lord reigns,
He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord is clothed,
He has girded Himself with
strength.
Surely the world is
established, so that it cannot be moved.
The Lord reigns! This is every believer’s anthem and song. He is clothed with majesty and He clothes us with His majesty! For no longer is He adorned with our soiled garments of Calvary. The Lord Jesus Christ is now fully clothed in His Royal Majesty that God the Father has placed upon Him. He is girded with strength, no longer bound by the confines of mortal flesh and its death which He willingly subjected Himself too to make Himself available to us all. And so having Risen from the dead He has clothed Himself in the Strength which the world will see at His Return. For just they saw Him weakened and broken at the Cross so they will see Him in His Strength as He has always been! And when He returns and reigns the world will be established, it will not be moved, because He will Reign with justice and equity for all!
Vs. 2 “Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.”
The Throne of the Lord has always been, but it has never been on earth, but that will come from the Lord Jesus Christ when He Reigns on earth, for He is from everlasting!
Vs. 3 “The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
The floods have lifted up
their voice;
The floods lift up their
waves.”
The floods here metaphors for the peoples and nations who have always, and will always rebel against the Lord. For they will exalt themselves against Him and His people, they will make war against Him, but their end is assured!
Vs. 4 “The Lord on high is mightier
Than the noise of many waters,
Than the mighty waves of the
sea.”
Therefore the Lord is celebrated once again, for He is mightier then them all! He is so much higher than all their noise and all their waves that for Him to look down upon them from His High Place is only to laugh at them (Psalm 37:13). For the Lord is not moved nor troubled by them, He is mightier than them all!
Vs. 5 “Your testimonies are very sure;
Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord,
forever.”
The Word of the Lord will be fulfilled. He will rule and reign and all His enemies will see their end at His hand. Therefore when He cleanses the world of all that is evil, He will adorn His House with Holiness forever!
