3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that
was made. 4 In Him was life,
and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness
did not comprehend it.
Commentary
Vs. 3 “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
The Importance then of the Word of God cannot be overstated! For through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that was made! Thus, God Himself has set the Word of God, His Son, at the forefront of all that He does and has done!
Vs. 4 “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”
In Jesus Christ then is Life: Spiritual Life, Eternal Life, Holy Life, Righteous Life, Abundant Life, Resurrected Life, everything that makes for Life, are all found in and through Jesus Christ the Word, who teaches us and guides in the way we should go! Therefore, the Life that Lord Jesus Christ manifests and brings to all who believe in Him is the light of men! Because it shines upon our souls the grace, goodness, forgiveness, and especially the love of God for us all found only in and through Jesus Christ.
Vs. 5 “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
And though the light shines in the darkness, the darkness did not comprehend it, (or overcome it), for God’s light always prevails! There is then no place where God’s light does not shine and illuminate the truth about Himself His Word, yet sadly not everyone will believe Him or receive Him for themselves. For sin has so darkened this world, that this world and those of it, are at enmity with the Word.
