Matthew 14:34–36

34 When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, 36 and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.

Commentary
Vs. 34When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.”

Having revealed Himself in the most profound of ways to the disciples in both enabling Peter to walk on the stormy Sea of Galilee with Him, and then saving Peter when Peter’s faith started to wane, the Lord Jesus along with the disciples now come to the land of Gennesaret.

Vs. 35-36 35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, 36 and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.

Now when Jesus and disciples made shore at the land of Gennesaret the men of that place recognized Jesus, and so they sent out messengers into all the surrounding region telling them to bring their sick to Him, and when the sick came they begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment (something that they must have heard from the woman and or crowds who saw Jesus heal her flow of blood, (Mark 5:25-34). Now just as in the case of the woman who believed if she only touched the hem of Jesus garment that she would be made well, so too in the case with the multitudes who likewise believed, for as many as touched it were made perfectly well. Now it is not the act of touching the hem of Jesus’ garment that made them well, it was their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ Himself and His abilities to do so for them that made them perfectly well. Jesus then allowed them to touch the hem of His garment (not because they had to do that to be healed) because that is how they came to believe their healing would occur. Similarly, then in salvation, the Lord is quite flexible and accommodating when it comes to one being saved by Him, for everything hinges only on one thing, that one believes in the Lord Jesus Christ Crucified for the remission of one’s sins transgressions and that Jesus three days later rose from the dead (John 3:16; Rom 10:9-10, 13). For that is what God requires of us all to be saved by Him our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ’s Person, Crucified and Risen from the dead. Therefore, whether one prays openly or silently to receive the Lord Jesus Christ or not is up to each and every individual. For the act of praying does not bring the Lord Jesus Christ into one’s person and life, but believing in Christ as testified too in the Scriptures and opening one’s heart to receive Him does (Rev. 3:20). Ones prayer then inviting the Lord into one’s heart and life then must only be an extension of one’s faith and trust in Him, and not as a means of salvation. Similarly, then one does not need to have a “perfect” knowledge of the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ to believe in Him, for God will accept and receive you based on your faith and trust in Jesus Crucified and Risen from the dead. Everything else then that is lacking in your Knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ He will provide through His Word as He teaches you and grows you up by His Spirit in the Knowledge of His only begotten Son. Therefore, don’t get bogged down in mans “theology”, or which Bible translation is best, or which denomination is most right, or try to link your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to political ideologies and movements, and miss the whole point of the Gospel which is God’s love for you, freely demonstrated through the Great and Gracious and Sacrificial death of His Son so that He might save you from eternal condemnation the moment you believe in Him (Eph. 1:13-14). Therefore, don’t delay by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ be reconciled to God today!
