Matthew 15:29–31

29 Jesus departed from there, skirted the Sea of Galilee, and went up on the mountain and sat down there. 30 Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them. 31 So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

Commentary
Vs. 29 Jesus departed from there, skirted the Sea of Galilee, and went up on the mountain and sat down there.”

Now with the Canaanite woman’s persistent faith and her daughter being healed because of it, the Lord Jesus now departs from the region of Tyre and Sidon and skirts the Sea of Galilee and goes up on a mountain and sits down there, (in Marks Gospel this region is indicated as the region of Decapolis, Mark 7:31-37). And so, what had begun with healing a single Canaanite woman in the region of Tyre and Sidon will soon explode into an outpouring of God’s healing mercies coming to the Gentiles of this region.

Vs. 30Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them.”

Now with Jesus’ arrival there great multitudes from the region come to Him bringing with them their lame, blind, mute, maimed, and what the Scripture describes as “many others”; that is all kinds of people afflicted with all kinds of affliction’s and torments, and they lay the people at Jesus’ feet, showing great reverence for His Person. Now with their doing so the Lord Jesus heals them all!

Vs. 31So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.”

Now with the Lord Jesus healing all their sick the Scripture says that the multitudes “glorified the God of Israel”, clearly indicating that these people were Gentiles to whom the Lord Jesus Christ had extended God’s healing grace and mercy too, even before the Gospel had been fully preached to Israel! And so, what had begun as healing one Canaanite woman’s daughter in the region of Tyre and Sidon had now by the Will of God blossomed into a great extension of the Gospels blessings to the neediest in the Gentile region of Decapolis!
