Matthew 17:22-23

22 Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” And they were exceedingly sorrowful.

Commentary
Though the Lord Jesus Christ was always teaching and instructing the disciples; even through their failures; His focus now was to keep them prepared for His upcoming Crucifixion death and Resurrection from the dead. For though the Lord Jesus Christ had been glorified in their Presence He was going to be betrayed into the hands of men who would kill Him, something that made the disciples exceedingly sorrowful upon hearing this from our Lord, having come to know Him as the must Just Man of all, to know that God’s Son was going to be betrayed too and then killed by men
