27 For as the lightning comes from the east and
flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the
eagles will be gathered together. 29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those
days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars
will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear
in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see
the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And
He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather
together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

With the end of the Tribulation, the finial end of this world begins, here the Lord Jesus Christ describes the events and signs in the heavens that will occur immediately before His Second Coming, “…the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” Vs. 29 Total darkness (and thus total chaos) will then encompass the earth; all which seems most appropriate and just given that the world chose darkness for themselves rather than light, and the power of Satan rather than the Power of God. Now when this occurs the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven; a sign so immense and powerful and glorious that it will be seen and understood by everyone as the Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Conqueror, and so the world that rejected Him will mourn and weep, for they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory (vs. 30). With the Second coming of Christ is not only His gathering of His elect to Himself (that is those who come to believe in Him during the Tribulation Period, vs. 31), but also at this time He will setup His Millennial Kingdom and Reign, and thus believing Israel having come through the Tribulation Period will serve Him and reign with Him for a thousand years.

Therefore, the Lord Jesus Christ’s Second Coming
will not be an event that men can prepare themselves for by going out here or
there to see it. For when it happens it will happen instantly, and it will be a
glorious and awesome sight like lightening flashing across the sky that
likewise gives no warning before it occurs. Now when it occurs the antichrist’s
and those who followed him judgment will be completed (2 Thess. 2:8; Rev.
19:11-21).
