3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples
came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will
be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
Scripture Quotations:
Commentary
Having declared to the disciples the
Temples complete destruction; something that would’ve been unimaginable to the
disciples given the size and the scale of it; the Lord Jesus now on the Mount
of Olives with the disciples, being seated alone, (with the Temple visible), is
approached by them with three key questions, the first being when will the
Temple be destroyed? While the second question concerns the Lord Jesus Christ’s
Second Coming, basically what signs will there be that will signify His return
to set up His Kingdom. And the third question concerns the end of the age, that
is this present age in which sin and Satan bear the rule over mankind and the
nations, and thus God’s finial judgment of all things, before He sets up a new
heavens and new earth in which righteous dwells (Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:13).
