Matthew 26:14-16

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. 16 So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.

Commentary
Judas Iscariot now goes to chief priests to betray the Lord Jesus Christ to them, and asks them, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” vs. 15 Immediately then they counted out thirty pieces of silver, a paltry sum given whom Judas Iscariot had just agreed to betray and what it will now cost him for all eternity. Now Judas Iscariot’s doing so, and the chief priests paying him this exact amount, was foretold in the Scripture (see Psalm 41:9; Zechariah 11:12-13; Matt 27:9-10). Luke’s Gospel also states that Satan entered Judas at this time (Luke 22:1-6); not that Satan made Judas Iscariot do anything against his will, but Judas had already hardened himself to the Lord; for he had been a thief a amongst the disciples for some time; and so now he sets himself on the Lord’s betrayal for money (consider Matt 6:24). Judas then in wanting to do so, in wanting to profit from the Lord’s betrayal and death became the perfect host for Satan to dwell in. Judas Iscariot then will be the person by which our Lord and Savior is betrayed according to the Scripture to Crucifixion death, and for it, he will suffer the greatest woe of all, for betraying God’s One and Only begotten Son (Matt. 26:24).
